Planning and Research- Front cover draft

I decided to change the masthead colour from black to white, as it stands out amongst the rest of the front cover features aswell. Also the black font blended in with the photograph so my audience found it hard to see it, I also changed the 'Anonymous' font as it did not represent the genre of my magazine.

Front cover- Masthead change.

Front cover: Original masthead.

Research & Planning: Front cover photograph

This is the final photograph I have chosen for my front cover as i think it's very professional, and the three models are holding very strong poses, the tight framing shows conventions too from other music magazine front cover main photographs. I decided to cut around the models leaving the location of the trees deselected, i then edited this to a brush affect to make the models stand out more from the photograph.

Research & Planning: final photographs

Mid Long shot-I am happy this photograph is very well taken, they are main focused and their facial expression and positing in the frame tightly is great.

Mid Long Shot- I like this photo, however the females hair is near her eyes, blocking eye contact with the camera.

Long Shot- Showing the location surrounding them, their positioning and poses are strong.

Mid Long Shot- The location brings the photo out and highlights the the genre of the band however the lighting is again very bright.

Mid Shot- I like the atmosphere of this photo as it's lighting that the band are fun and have a good relationship, this would be an idea to use for my double page spread.

Mid Long shot- This photo has too much lighting focusing on the models faces.

Mid Shot- I like the positioning of the three models in the frame, it looks very professional.

Research and Planning - Target audience; magazine genre of music.

These are examples of the type of genre of music that would include in my music magazine and that would attract my target audience to 'Breakthrough'. The band members dress in a particular way and this influences my 'indie' genre that I would like to show through my photographs in the costumes and props used.

Research and Planning - Weather Forecast for the final photoshoot.

It's always sensible to look at the weather forecast before shooting a photoshoot, so it can prepare you for the worst. It allows me to view what part of the day is best to take the photos. I used Internet explorer and BBC weather to get the most accurate weather forecast, it shows that heavy rain is throughout wednesday except during dinner time 12:00, which is predicted drizzle, therefore I will take the photo's then, decreasing the chances of the photoshoot to be a disaster, as the weather can damage equipment and the models appearance and health.

Research and Planning - Location Recces for finial photoshoot

Area One: Urban Area.

Area: Urban Area.
RECCE FORM

Location of the photographs :
I decided that I’m going to take my photographs in a rural area where there is several trees surrounding creating an atmosphere for the photographs, I want my photographs to look serious for my front cover, as in comparison to my double page spread. The colour of my photos will be dim and dull to represent this importance.

DATE:
11/01/2011

TIME:
Early afternoon.

Planning and Research- Photoshoot retake.

I have decided that I am going to retake my photo's for the second time, because I feel that the poses wasn't strong enough as the previous photo's that I took and also the lighting and focus on them wasn't too great. In conclusion Ive chosen to use three different models that auditioned.

Planning and Research- Contents page photograph

This is the photograph I've decided to use on my contents page, Ive decided to change the colour black and white, as it gave a better effect on the page itself.

Research and Planning - Finial photograph model framing and poses.

This photo is very good, I like the models pose and positioning within the frame, the photograph shows a sense of seriousness that reflects the bands attitude. I would use this similar photo on my double page spread to match the text.

I like this photo, it shows the models attitude. There positing within the frame is good and seems there breaking through the image that could represent my masthead very well on the front cover.

The positioning of the models are cleverly used, as the female is more Lent towards the camera that may indicate she is the most know from the band as the boys stand back and are relaxed but still have this serious atmosphere. I believe this would work for front cover or double page spread.

Q magazine- Main photo- This is the type of framing and pose im looking for in my music magazine cover.

Q magazine- Main photo, the use of three models again and the pose shows their attitude within the photograph.

Planning and Research - Weekly plan from 9th January

My plan for this week is too-
complete my whole magazine, I will use my spare time to complete the Front cover, Contents page and Double page spread.

Research and Planning- Final Photographs

I took these photographs as my second photoshoot as I felt my other final ones were not professional enough as I explained. These photographs however don't meet the standard of my test shots, as their posing isn't strong enough for my genre of magazine and would not relate to the double page story. The lighting and focus too isn't great, in conclusion I've decided that I'm going to retake my photographs one last time with different models. The previous photo's of these models may be used in my 'Contents Page' or 'Front Cover'.
Long Shot- light creates shadows upon the models faces.

Long Shot- The focus is blurred on the background and their faces.

Long Shot- The models poses are not presented well, the lighting is washing the colour of the photo too.

Long Shot- The focusing on this photo is not bad however the pose isn't representing the band's attitude

Extreme Long Shot- Shows the location off well however the models are not looking direct into the lens.

Long Shot- Blurred.

Extreme Long Shot- The focus and colour are reasonable, the model poses again don't match the attitude.

Extreme Long Shot- The photo has lost a lot of focus during shooting.

Extreme Long Shot- this is similar to the last shot, slightly in a different position.

Extreme Long Shot- The photo looks dull and low lighting.

Mid Shot- this photograph is well presented as the models position are tight and close together, the attitude of their seriousness come across, this is a type of photo I will take for my final photograph for my 'Front Cover'

Research and Planning - Risk Assessment for front cover photographs.

Before the shooting for my final photographs for my front cover, It's always best to complete a production risk assessment, it reduces the risk of any hazards within the shooting:

The weather:

Weather can be very unpredictable, this can cause allot of damage to the camera itself, also you have to take the models health into consideration. However this can disrupt their hair, make up and also the clothes of the models. So it's best if you research the weather a day or two before shooting to get an insight of what the weather may be like on the day. As happened the last time I decided to shoot the photographs a large amount of snow corrupted to do so.

Google Maps- King Georges park: location of my final photogaphs. This is what the location appeared the time of my shooing schedule was on, causing a disruption and hazard area to work.

King Georges park- Location for the final photographs, no weather problem's the day of shooting on 9th of January.

Planning and Research- Front cover and double page spread photographs.

Mid shot- The lighting is good, and is on focus however of model is out of shot.

Long Shot- bad lighting around the face and poor focus.

Mid shot- the lighting is poor and is blurred.

Mid Shot- this is also badly blurred.

Mid shot- this is a well positioned photo and the models are framed well, however due to the lighting directly above this causes a shadow over them.

Long Shot- this lighting is too dark and dull.

Long Shot- this photo has a yellow tinge due to the motivational light.

Close up- the body posture and pose works well with the shot, however the lighting is not very good.

Mid Shot- this photograph works well as it shows there attitude and who takes most importance in the band, the colour isn't that well due to the lighting however this could be changed by simply using software.

Mid Long shot- there's a yellow tinge across the photograph.

Mid Long Shot- at a low angle, this shows the band in action, the dark lighting spoils this.

Mid Shot- showing the attitude of the band, however this yellow tinge keeps reoccurring.

Long shot of a high angle- this is creative and the model fits the frame well.

Mid shot- very blurred and bad lighting.
